Thurs May 6,  PSC Hybrid Zoom General Meeting at Emmett’s.  This will be our only general meeting  for May so plan to come in person if you can to  Emmett’s.  Their kitchen closes at 8pm so come early to order your food and drinks. We’ll also be having the meeting available via Zoom starting at  7:00 pm.    An email will go out to PSC Club Members with the meeting URL and login information beforehand for Zoom attendance. Wed May 12,  Naturalist-Led Birding Hike at Sagawau  starting at 8:30 am.  The address for Sagawau is

12545 West 111th Street, Cook County, IL (near Lemont) . An early morning in May is prime time for bird-spotting, and we’ve been promised wildflowers, too!  Bring your binoculars and cameras for this PSC-only birding hike.  Meet at the red 1870s farmhouse, second building as you drive into Sagawau.  The program will go regardless of weather (unless it’s dangerous, such as heavy wind, thunder or lightning).  Face masks required.  Limit 14; please sign up on Meetup.

Sat May 29, Pollyanna Brewing Company   2:00 to 4:00  at 431 Talcott Avenue, Lemont . Gather for a brew on Pollyanna’s spacious outdoor deck, with tables overlooking the tree-lined, historic I&M Canal.  Bonus:  a pop-up appearance by Chuck’s Southern Comforts Café, offering tasty snacks (no set menu yet, but past offerings included jambalaya, chili, mac & cheese, etc.).  Double bonus:  Pollyanna’s is steps away from the I&M Canal towpath, so you can bike over if so inclined.  RSVP on Meet-Up so we know who is coming to this event.

Tues June 8, Downers Grove Concert in Fishel Park—Mason Rivers Band  7-8:30 pm Join us in person at Fishel Park with a reserved viewing area for six or watch online from home via live streamed show.  Mason Rivers covers the best of current country music. Fishel Park is located on Grove Street just west of Main Street (behind Emmett’s Ale House).  Bring a camp chair or blanket.  RSVP on Meetup.  Maximum 12.

 

 Advance reservations will be required.  PSC will attempt to get        reservations for 2 groups of 6 when they become available June 1. No onsite registration will be available.

          

Tickets will be required to enter the event (RSVP on Meetup, and we’ll meet in front of Emmett’s at 6:15 to gather our group and distribute tickets).

 

Capacity will be limited to meet state guidelines. Masks will be required when not seated in your viewing area. Social distancing between non-household groups will be required.

       

Restrooms will be available. Visitors are welcome to bring their own food; outside alcohol is prohibited. The Concert Series format is subject to change following any changes to state guidelines.

Sat June 12, Herrick Lake/Danada Bike Ride and Backyard Picnic starting at 10:00 am. Like Bilbo Baggins, we’ll go “there and back again” on a 12-15 mile adventure through Herrick Lake and Danada on gravel trails—lakes, meadow and forest—with a couple of fun surprises along the way.   Departing from the Murphy/Amlee’s, steps away from the Prairie Path in Wheaton, meet at our house at 10 am and depart at 10:30.  Picnic to follow in our backyard.  Please sign up on Meetup, limit 20, to keep track of our numbers and receive the meeting place address.

Sat June 19, Small group dinner  Cadence Kitchen & Company    7:30 pm  5101 Mochel Drive, Downers Grove .  Many of our social events welcome large groups; these smaller, more intimate dinners allow us to get to know each other better in nice surroundings.  We’ll have two tables of  8 each on Cadence's outdoor patio.  Please sign up on Meetup.  Face masks required.  Hosted by Susan and David Valenta, Eileen Murphy Amlee and Duane Amlee.

Sat June 26,  Paddle Tampier Lake, Then Lakeside BYO Picnic     9 a.m. Get the dust and webs off your personal boat and bring it out for this event. No boat? You can rent a variety of watercrafts. Don’t like boating? Come out for the picnic and some outdoor fun with friends. Here are the details:  Tampier lake is located near Orland Park at 131st and Wolf Rd. Parking, launch and rentals are on the south side of 131st just west of Wolf Road. Boat rental opens at 9am NO Reservations, first come first rent only. COVID rules only allow each boat and life jacket rental out once for the day.

 

This is what Tampier has to offer for rent. Row Boat (Includes Oars), Single Kayak, Canoe $20/hr, Tandem Kayak, Fishing Boat with Battery & Trolling Motor (2 hr minimum) $25/hr. There are also Pedal boats for rent. Personal non motorized boats are allowed on this lake.   They also have a convenient concession stand for food, beverages and fishing bait if you are interested. Restrooms are open when boat rental is open.

 

Be there at or just before 9am to rent or launch your boat at their easy in and out boat ramp. The picnic will follow as paddlers finish and come off the water.

 

Bring your sunhat, sunscreen, picnic chair, bottle of water, and food, along with a beverage of choice for the picnic. This is a fishing lake, so you can fish from your boat or shore if you like.

Sun Sept 19,  36th Annual North Shore Century Bike Ride Dawes Park, 1700 Sheridan Road, Evanston. Ride through beautiful neighborhoods  featuring architectural treasures; enjoy tree- lined streets and views of Lake Michigan.

     

Choose your ride:  Classic (100 miles),Metric (62 miles), 50 mile or 25 mile. Please arrive at or before the posted start time of 8:30 am.

Fresh fruit, baked goods, PB&Js, bagels, snack bars, energy drinks and something special and unique at each rest stop. Mechanical support provided by local bike shop. SAG vehicles for emergencies. Certificates for all participants!
